It started with a banana.
In 2019, a piece of conceptual art, a fresh banana, duct-taped to a white wall, was sold for $120,000 USD at Art Basel Miami. The buyer eventually ate it.
We're not here to debate whether that was genius or a joke. But it got us thinking...
What about the kids?
Right now, somewhere in Australia, a six-year-old is painting a purple elephant with the watercolors she got for her birthday. A ten-year-old is sculpting a rocket out of clay. A thirteen-year-old is making the map of a place that doesn't exist yet.
None of them have agents. None of them have galleries.
And yet what they're making is, in our completely unbiased opinion, more creative than a banana on a wall.
That's why we built this website.
Better than Banana is a marketplace connecting children's original artwork with people who want to hang something meaningful on their walls.
We believe that:
A child's imagination is the most underrated creative force in the world.
Original art doesn't need a famous signature to be worth something.
The best galleries aren't in New York. They're on fridge doors.
Worried about your child's privacy? We've got it covered.
No full names - artists are listed by nicknames only.
No school or location - we will never display where a child lives.
Age group only - we show age ranges (e.g. Ages 6-8), not full birthdays.
Parent-managed - all listings have to be created by a parent or guardian.
The art is public. Your child is not.
